Animated Example of Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
This is an animated ultrasound guided sclerotherapy session. It may take a few seconds to a few minutes to load, depending upon the speed of your internet connection.
You will see the needle come in from the right side of the screen. The needle is depicted as first going through the skin, and then puncturing a vein beneath the skin.
Blood is represented by the red clusters; the green bubbles illustrate the foamed sclerosant that is injected. The advantage of using a foamed sclerosant is that it pushes the blood out of the vessel; if a liquid is injected, the liquid tends to mix with the blood which immediately dilutes the concentration of the sclerosant acting on the vessel walls.
